Time to Act - Kia Rite!
Closed 2 May 2021
It’s time to act. Hawke’s Bay has a legacy of environmental issues and a changing climate. Our natural surroundings have seen too little investment for too long. We need to continue the work we accelerated in 2018.
Consultation closed at 8pm 2 May 2021.
We consulted on our plan for the next ten years. We propose to spend an extra $10.5 million on the activities and services we deliver and $14.7 million on infrastructure and capital projects in 2021-22. This takes advantage of funding already secured from the Government’s COVID-19 stimulus package.
Doing more puts more pressure on rates, so to reduce the impact on ratepayers, we will continue to borrow for intergenerational and capital projects, and to cover operational costs. We borrowed to defer last year’s rate increase (7.3% or $1.8 million) to provide immediate relief to ratepayers.
In our full consultation document we talk about the things we have to do.
What we consulted on
There were six specific consultation proposals that needed your feedback. Each proposal had options to consider as well as cost, funding, rates, debt and level of service impacts.
These proposals will cost an additional $840,000 in 2021-22 in operational costs. Additional costs fall in later years or will be funded in other ways.
