Notice of Requirement (RM 230011) for a designation for the State Highway 2 - Waikare Gorge Realignment Project
Section 95A, 168 of the Resource Management Act 1991
Wairoa District Council has received notice of Requirement (RM 230011) for a designation from NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
The requirement is for:
Realigning State Highway 2 within the Wairoa district, including the construction of a new bridge across the Waikari River and associated works.
The site to which the requirement applies is as follows: The proposed two-lane new state highway (“realignment”) enters the Wairoa District by traversing the Waikare Gorge at a new proposed bridge. From the northern side of the Waikare Gorge, it veers westwards towards and crosses over the KiwiRail corridor to reconnect and tie into the existing SH2 after the McKenzie’s Rail Overbridge.

Any person or organisation may make a submission on the notice of requirement, but a person who is a trade competitor of the requiring authority may do so only if that person is directly affected by an effect of the activity to which the requirement relates that –
(a) Adversely affects the environment; and
(b) Does not relate to trade competition or the effects of trade competition.
